Last week saw the completion of The Shard, the highest building in Europe, which has been growing everyday on my walk into the office. While simple in design the building managed to give quite a few challenges to the contractors as they dismantled the old building and erected the new one – such as the London Underground physically moving under the weight. There is a good Channel 4 documentary on it if you get a spare hour.
So with it complete (although from our angle it looks unfinished) in time for the Olympics I am pleased such a project was undertaken and that it got the opening it deserved. Now I just have the wait to try and get tickets for the viewing platform which opens in February apparently. Let’s hope if the economy improves that more investment will be made into London’s skyline and ensuring that it remains such an interesting place to live and work.
